FAQs

What is microneedling?

Microneeding, also known as collagen production therapy is a cosmetic procedure that is used to encourage collagen production using small, sterilized needles creating thousands of micro channels among the skin.

What to expect after your treatment?

You will experience redness and mild swelling, similar to bad sunburn. Some may have small areas of pinpoint bleeding and even some bruising. These effects can last 24-48 hours. The redness will begin to subside after a few hours and can be covered with make-up 12 hours after treatment. Minor peeling and flakiness can occur after a few days and it is recommended to apply a good moisturizer and sunscreen.

What is the aftercare?

  • Dryness, scaling, redness and swelling may be present after your treatment and be last for several days.

  • Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for at least 24 hours.

  • No tanning beds & ALWAYS use sun protection with an SPF 30 or higher. Do NOT go outside without sun protection (even on a cloudy day).

  • It is recommended to use the aftercare provided twice daily for best results. Patients should wait to apply make-up for 12 hours after the treatment.

  • Patients should not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for at least 5 days’ post treatment.

  • Patients should NOT scratch or peel the skin as this may cause permanent scarring.

  • Patients should NOT go swimming for at least 24 hours’ post-treatment.

  • Patients should NOT exercise or do strenuous activity for the first 24 hours’ post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments can be harmful and may cause adverse reactions, due to open pores and bacteria.

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • You should not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for the skin rejuvenation. Use Tylenol only as needed for any tenderness.

What is the down time?

The inflammatory reaction post procedure is extremely short. Patients can expect redness to fade within 12 to 48 hours. Slight swelling, although rare, can occur around sensitive areas and last about the same amount of time.

How many microneedling treatments are needed and how often can procedures be repeated?

Micro needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks. Treatments done any sooner can cause increased inflammation, which can lead to an adverse side effect of pigmentation and the breakdown of collagen. 3-6 treatments are generally recommended for best results, but it can vary depending on the skin condition being treated, client’s age, & how the skin responds to the treatment.

Is there any special pre-treatment needed?

Before the treatment,

  • Avoid using skincare products containing retinol, AHAs, tretinoin, or any type of vitamin A derivative 3 days prior to treatment. Also avoid products containing glycolic, mandelic, salicylic, or lactic acid.

  • Patient has not been on Accutane for the past 6 months (No Exceptions).

  • Patient has not had micro needling, No IPL or any other laser procedures within the last 4 weeks.

  • No autoimmune therapies or products 12 hours prior to treatment.

  • No waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis 7 days prior to the procedure.

  • On the day of the treatment, the patient should keep their face clean and do not apply makeup if possible.

How long does the treatment take?

Total treatment time is 60 minutes including 20 minutes for the numbing agent to insure a more comfortable experience.

Are the results visible immediately?

Although results can be visible in the few days following your treatment, you must wait the full 3-4 weeks for maximum results and complete skin healing.

How long does it take to see results from a microneedling treatment?

You will start to notice positive changes within a couple of days to a few weeks following the treatment. Skin will appear firmer, smoother, more rejuvenated, and the luminosity of the complexion will improve.

You are not a candidate for this treatment if you

  • Have a used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last six months.

  • Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on the area being treated.

  • Have had radiation treatment to the skin within the last year.

  • Have any kind of current skin infection or herpes simplex in the area to be treated (microneedling can trigger outbreaks).

  • Are pregnant or breast feeding (all the nutrients should go to the baby and not to repair the skin). Also, numbing cream cannot be applied to nursing mother.

  • Have any history of keloid scars (in the area being treated).

  • Poor wound healing.

  • Eczema, Psoriasis, Active Acne, Rosacea, or other chronic skin conditions (in the area being treated).

  • Actinic (Solar) Keratosis.

  • Diabetes (delayed wound healing)

  • Presence of raised moles, warts, or lesions within treatment area.

Is microneedling safe after dermal fillers or Botox?

Yes, but it is recommended to wait 2 weeks after Botox and 4 weeks after dermal fillers before having the procedure.
